HockeyCat Rink Information

Amenities: Iceland in Virginia Beach is one of the original rinks in Virginia. Iceland does some things very well - the important things. The snack bar is open when people are there, the ice is very good and their is seating to watch the game. The maintenance staff walked the ice in between games to check the level. Icelandis showing its age in most respects. The glass is very marked up which makes it hard to see and the dressing rooms are very small. The pro-shop is also small. However, the facilty was clean. There is a small arcade and birthday/conference room of decent size.

Locker Rooms: The Iceland locker rooms are crowded and small. Access is by a long thin walkway past the stands. The referees' locker room is separated from the players.

Seating: The Iceland seating is excellent. If the glass were clearer, it would be very easy to see the game. As it is, it is still comfortable.

Ice: Iceland has very good ice. A piece of glass separating the scorer from the ice would be helpful.

Cleanliness: The bathrooms seemed clean and the staff does their best with what they have to work with. The snack bar area was also clean.

Pro Shop: The Pro Shop is small and has mostly safety equipment for kids. Skate sharpening is available.

Overall: Iceland is an aging facility. However, it is not a bad place to play hockey. The ice is good, the boards are in decent shape, the glass needs to be cleaned and the scorer protected a little. The location is on the edge of an improving area, so food, shopping and hotels are all nearby. The building is old, but the ice is good, the snack bar open and you can sit down and watch the game. Overall this facility overcomes a lot of obstacles to make a decent place to play hockey.
